About this activity.

The artworks of Gert Sennema and Fons Hoiting are closely related to nature. Because of the used materials, esthetical choices in motive and as carrier of meaning.Both artists used Dutch (folk)art history as a source and inspiration. Not observation but imagination is the starting point.
In the sculptures and wall objects of Gert Sennema it’s the humans, animals and objects that build relationships with each other from the material out of which they are shaped. The living material, wood, manifests itself towards dead matter, steel, terracotta and concrete.

The statues balance between play and control, light and weight. They explore the inner space, the wonder and the commitment to this disenchanted world. The paintings of Fons Hoiting know landscape, (self)portraits and still life. Often in combination with a representation. They express a search , in different shapes and techniques, to the relation between illusion of space and the suggestion of colour. It is reflected in a poetic, associative exploration and stories.

Every Friday afternoon Gert Sennema will work on a sculpture in Pictura.

Pictura.

Het Kunstlievend Genootschap Pictura in Groningen werd opgericht in 1832 met als doel: 'de beeldende kunst en de nijverheidskunst in de ruimste zin van het woord aan te moedigen en te bevorderen.' Pictura is gehuisvest in een mooi, monumentaal pand aan het Martinikerkhof in Groningen. In de sfeervolle zalen exposeren professionele kunstenaars van uiteenlopende richtingen en disciplines, maar de hoofdmoot is figuratief.
