SEEN #24: Miku Sato & Beth Ka-Yi Wong
About this activity.
As the water rises and falls, the ancient history of Groningen becomes shrouded in mystery. For the residency, we seek to encounter the landscape and its people by viewing modern Groningen through the eyes of its ancient inhabitants. By researching folklore related to water and ancestral rituals, we will look for the spirits that continue to coexist with the land. Our project will involve performative video and interactive elements, layering historical memory onto the present day.
Miku Sato is an artist working across video installations and workshops. Rooted in community-based fieldwork, her practice explores storytelling as a way to weave traces of lived encounters through time, recently focusing on colonial histories and food culture.
Beth Ka-Yi Wong is a collector of poetic fragments drawn from the urban fringe. Built on painterly foundations, her practice explores the theme of longing for belonging through the observation, recollection, and translation of her immediate surroundings.
