On Thursday, March 12 and Thursday, May 21, the municipality, together with Kunstpunt, is organizing drop-in meetings about the artwork called the Geheugenpaviljoen (Memory Pavilion). The meetings will take place from 4:30 PM to 8:00 PM at the Poortershoes, Oosterweg 13. All residents of Groningen are welcome, especially those living in the neighborhoods around the Zuiderplantsoen.
Geheugenpaviljoen to be realized with adjustments
In December 2025, the municipal executive decided that the Geheugenpaviljoen will be built, with adjustments. This decision followed a participation process held in January and February 2025, during which residents were able to share their opinions about the Geheugenpaviljoen or an alternative artwork for this location.
Two standing columns and three horizontal beams from the former southern ring road form the basis of the future artwork. This has been decided. The municipality would like to discuss other elements of the artwork with residents. This may include, among other things, four remaining fragments of other standing columns from the old road, further greening of the artwork, or the addition of a mural. Another topic of discussion is the social safety of the artwork and its immediate surroundings.
Meeting on March 12
At the drop-in meeting on March 12, the artists (Studio L A) will present their initial ideas for changes to the design, based on earlier feedback from residents.
Visitors can respond to these ideas both verbally and in writing on March 12 and provide additional comments.
Advisory group contributes ideas
An advisory group of up to 10 people will collaborate with the artists of Studio L A on the final design of the Geheugenpaviljoen.
Places in the advisory group are reserved for representatives of Buurtoverleg Oosterpoort (1), Buurtvereniging Herepoort (1), Oosterpoort Duurzaam (1), direct local residents (1), and an expert in urban planning and (landscape) architecture (1).
The remaining five places will be filled by lottery. Visitors to the March 12 meeting can register for this, as well as residents who previously indicated via Stem van Groningen that they would like to continue contributing ideas about the Geheugenpaviljoen.
The advisory group will meet twice between March 12 and May 21 and will be led by a municipal staff member.
Meeting on May 21
At the second drop-in meeting (May 21), Studio L A will present its final design for the Geheugenpaviljoen.
