Two visions, one city – Christiaan Afman & Annemiek Vos

This new exhibition brings together the work of Christiaan Afman and Annemiek Vos: two artists from Groningen who share the city as their main source of inspiration, but who have clearly developed their own distinct styles in terms of technique.

Christiaan Afman works with a precise, almost architectural approach. His cityscapes are characterized by tight compositions, clear lines, and a controlled use of light and shadow. His attention to structure and perspective creates a tranquil, almost contemplative atmosphere, as if the city has paused for a moment and allows itself to be viewed calmly.

Annemiek Vos, on the other hand, opts for a more expressive painting style. With dynamic brushstrokes, lively color contrasts, and a palpable movement in her paint layer, she reflects the energy of the city. Her technique emphasizes atmosphere and rhythm; Groningen appears not only as a place, but as an experience.

Together, Afman and Vos show how technique can make the same subject speak in completely different ways. Their work forms a dialogue between precision and expression, between stillness and dynamism. In short, a double perspective on Groningen.

On Saturday, December 20, you are welcome to meet the artists. Christiaan will be there at 2 p.m. and Annemiek at 4 p.m.
