Soon in the art rental: Ada Duker - Come forth
About this activity.
Borromini, Palladio or the portici of Bologna – in her solo exhibition Come Forth, visual artist Ada Duker shows how Italian architecture inspires her. Her drawing-like style is calm and understated, orderly but never polished, with a limited colour palette. From 29 August to 4 October, Ada’s paintings can be seen in Come Forth in the Art Rental of Kunstpunt Groningen.
Ada often works in series, approaching her subject from different angles. Ada: “These are subjects I can lose myself in, that completely absorb me for a time – like a scientist immersed in specialist research. For me, it’s not about a realistic depiction, but about finding an essence, ‘the conquest’. Come forth!”
Ada’s recent work emerged from a working period in Rome, where in 2023 she took part in a residency at the Royal Netherlands Institute. In Rome, she zoomed in on the ornamentation of Baroque architect Francesco Borromini: elements people often overlook, such as a garland in a column or a surprising balustrade. Ada removed these details from their original context and gave them a leading role in her work.
The Roman stone pine also frequently appears in Ada Duker’s paintings. These tall trees with their rounded crowns are characteristic of Rome’s streetscape. Sadly, they are under threat: many are reaching the end of their lifespan. In her work, Ada plays with this transience – for example, by leaving out tree crowns or depicting them in complementary colours.
Ada’s Choice
Alongside her own work, Ada Duker is also presenting a personal selection from Kunstpunt’s Art Rental Collection. In Ada’s Choice, you will see artworks with which she feels a connection – in the way of looking, the visual language, the hand, the subject, or the approach. All these works, like Ada’s own, are available to borrow or buy through the Art Rental.
