RE;REVERIES | Yang-ha
About this activity.
Exhibition August 1st – September 27th. In July and August, Yang Ha will be an artist-in-residence at the Bierumer School.
Yang Ha works and lives in Amsterdam and Seoul, South Korea. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Western Painting from Ewha Womans University in 2018 and a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Painting from the Frank Mohr Institute in Groningen in 2021. Using motifs such as explosions, debris, and clouds, she explores the invisible yet tangible traces of violence and emotion, conducting spatial experiments that constantly shift between reality and fiction, weight and lightness.
In 2022, she received the Artist Start Fund from the Mondriaan Fund and in 2025, she was selected for the Art Creation Support Program of the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture.
I overlay the violent explosions I see in the news with the dazzling fireworks that greet us at the beginning and end of each year. Tree branches outside my house stretch out like explosion lines, and clouds glow at sunset like the smoke rising after a collision. These images—drawn from both daily life and disasters—merge into symbolic motifs that repeat themselves in the space of my paintings. In these layered landscapes where tragedy and daily routine are intertwined, the original emotional impulse gradually fades. I trace my doubts through landscapes where tragedy and daily life are intertwined. Can my paintings become a gesture of resistance? Can they truly disarm violence?
The opening of the exhibition RE;REVERIES will take place on Friday, August 29th, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. That afternoon, Paula Biemans will be in conversation with Yang-ha about her work at the Bierumer School. The exhibition will then run until September 27th.
