Through a subtle interplay of electronics and voice, Luz Mercedes crafts audiovisual pieces that explore the echoes of trauma. Their work balances raw intensity with vulnerability, tracing the fluid edges between inner and outer worlds.

They are drawn to the gooey, the fragile, the abject—materials and states neither fully inside nor outside the body.

Luz uses hydrophones, EMF mics, and contact mics in ceramics and other resonant vessels to forage for sounds. These tools enable alternative modes of listening, capturing what slips past the limits of human hearing.

In 2025, they completed a BA in Fine Arts and will continue their practice in the Master of Music at the Prins Claus Conservatory (New Audiences, Innovative Practices).

Their thesis Weeping Oscillations Map the Body was nominated for the Minerva Research Award.
