In the performance A Masterpiece, Dennis Vanderbroeck tries to create a masterpiece. Based on performances by his heroes, from Yves Klein and Bruce Nauman to Tina Turner, Dennis attempts to use their genius to reach his own. With his father's voice, age 61 and Alzheimer's disease, as his manual. His father's progressive forgetting process as a race against time. A match never to be forgotten.
The acts of his heroes' reenactments are narrated by Dennis and his father. A father trying to help his son create his own masterpiece. A dialogue about art, memories and their disappearance. A Masterpiece is an exercise in letting go, growing up and getting older. A performance that teaches us how art can save our lives and vice versa.
About the creator
Studio Dennis Vanderbroeck (1990) works on an international scale, on spatial projects in various disciplines and contexts. A physical meeting in a physically designed space is always the core of his work. He studied at the Performance course in Maastricht, but for a long time he did not feel the need to stand on stage himself. Until now. Dennis has designed fashion shows for Dior, Calvin Klein and Raf Simons, among others, made stage images for International Theater Amsterdam and Het Nationale Theater, among others, and he recently attracted international acclaim with his design for Diesel's spring/summer 2023 fashion show.
