Tschumipaviljoen

Puff

1997

28 september - 16 november 1997

Transformation of the Tschumipaviljoen into a poetic image by more than five thousand blue, ultramarine mushroom shapes. For every shape a genuine mushroom was dipped into blue paraffine, as a mold. After hardening of the paraffine, the mushroom was removed, and a unique, slightly transparent hollow mushroom remained. In order to stick the mushrooms to the glass, their stems were heated by means of an iron. After coagulation the blue paraffine mushrooms remain stuck on the glass. In this way, the pavilion is strewn with blue dots, together radiating a blue glow. The sculptural image evokes memories of the blue ultramarine paintings with sponges and mushrooms by Ives Klein.
