About this artwork.

Cornelis Lieste (1817 - 1861) was a painter and lithographer and mainly painted landscapes in the romantic style. Lieste was sent by his father to the City-Drawing School' in Haarlem in 1835. From 1837-1838 he then learned to paint summer and winter landscapes with overwhelming backlighting. In 1839 he received the 'great silver medal' (first prize) at the Exhibition for Living Masters, held at the Royal School for Useful and Visual Arts in 's-Hertogenbosch for 'Landscape at Winter'. He mainly made a name for himself as a landscape painter in the Dutch Romanticism style at the time. Cornelis Lieste signed his work with C. Lieste fecit.
