War Memorial
T.G. Verlaan
About this artwork.
This memorial was erected in 1970 in memory of all citizens who died in the struggle for freedom and justice during the Second World War. The monument was initially comprised of a round pylon of Bavarian granite and a commemorative plaque engraved with the text:
“1940-1945 WAS MORE THAN A WAR
IT WAS A STRUGGLE FOR FREEDOM,
JUSTICE AND HUMANITY
MANY WERE NOT ABLE TO EXPERIENCE PEACE
AMONG THEM, WE REMEMBER THOSE WHO
LOST THEIR LIVES IN BATTLE.”
In 2016, a second plaque was added to the memorial on the initiative of the Cultural Historical Society of Ten Boer (CHVTB). The names of the 24 war victims from the former municipality of Ten Boer, as well as their age, date of death and the place where they died, are listed here.
