Open Call — Exhibition 'Rooted'—– MOW / Museum Westerwolde

Exhibition Rooted – Open Call for Artists

From May 17 to October 25, 2026, the MOW delves into the world of trees and forests with the exhibition Rooted. Trees are everywhere and indispensable: from monumental oaks to emerging food forests. They shape our landscape and are deeply rooted in customs, myths, and stories. In Westerwolde, once a vast woodland, you’ll find the oldest forest in Groningen and a centuries-old timber culture.

Rooted explores trees as both iconic elements and sources of meaning. From Christmas and birth trees to the mysterious wood wide web and crown shyness – trees have always fascinated us.

Open Call
The MOW invites artists to explore trees in all their facets: landscape, history, and symbolism. Immerse yourself in stories from Westerwolde and the surrounding Groningen countryside.

🧑‍💻 Want to participate?
Register via the form and send your images to info@hetmow.nl (including your name on the file). Your work doesn’t have to be finished, but please provide a clear sketch and description.

⏰ Deadline: November 3, 2025.
