Connection (Verbinding)

Herman Bartelds

About this artwork.

At the Harener Hof cemetery, the sculpture Connection expresses interpersonal relationships, even beyond death. The brass shapes and the serpentine stone bowl depict three living creatures that surround and carry their beloved deceased with devotion and respect.

Connecting and carrying are two important themes in Bartelds' work. In his sculptures, the artist combines various materials - mostly bluestone and brass - to express this. The different shapes and materials enter into a mutual connection without losing their individuality.
