Entreepoort bij Dierenweide Eelderbaan (Gatehouse at animal meadow)
Ids Willemsma
About this artwork.
The high gate marks the entrance to the Eelderbaan children's farm. Both the gate and the farm were designed by the Frisian artist Ids Willemsma. In both designs, Willemsma ties in with essential and functional basic shapes - the triangle and the square - and with historical elements. The petting zoo resembles a traditional sheepfold and the corten steel gate refers to the former entrance to farms (gate over canal). The beacon is also reminiscent of an animal enclosure, in particular a dovecote. The gatehouse is not only a marking, it also spans a footpath and a rainwater drain.
Ids Willemsma (1949) attended the Academy for Visual Arts 'Vredeman de Vries' in Leeuwarden. He is best known for his monumental steel sculptures, of which The Timpel of Ids on the seawall near Marrum is one of his most famous works.
