Your Parents Must Be Proud?

“Normally painting is something that is mainly known as a visual medium, but in my practice I try to see which aspects of painting have been underexposed and how we could use them in new ways. For Lucht I made a painting titled Your Parents Must Be Proud?. In addition to its ‘usual’ function, this work also functions as a mini golf course, as a board game and provides access to an online game. It can be used for organizing an exhibition or used for a performance. In addition, I can use it when I am bored in the studio or when a spectator is bored at an exhibition. The work Your Parents Must Be Proud? is for me a way to question both artistry and the role of painting in 2021. For example, is it okay if I make a painting that serves to entertain myself? And is the painting now part of everyday life or will it remain a seconded work of art?”

About project 'Lucht'

The corona measures have hit the art sector enormously. Exhibitions and art grants have been canceled or postponed. It is an uncertain time for many artists. With the Lucht project, Kunstpunt Groningen wants to support artists and designers from the municipality of Groningen. 87 Groningen artists have received a stipend with which they have created new work, including Dinnis van Dijken.
