About this artwork.
"Jan Tengbergen's piece of art depicts De Heerd's Living Principle. In this housing complex, everyone lives independently, but certain spaces and facilities, such as gardens and laundry and hobby areas, are shared. The houses are built in two horseshoe shapes. At the heart of the horseshoe are the communal gardens. Between the horseshoes is a square with a central area with a bar and kitchen.
In 1986, Residents' Association for Central Living De Heerd submitted a request to the municipality to place a piece of art on the square on the occasion of the Association's fifth anniversary. The request was granted and on the advice of CBK Groningen (Centre for Visual Arts), Jan Tengbergen created the design."
