Untitled (4 wire fures - draadfiguren)

Anna Dekking-van Haeften

About this artwork.

Four “wire figures” of copper – a group of deer, a snail, a chicken and a horse near a tree – have been installed on the roof and on the facade of a school building. The fragile wire figures create a sharp contrast with the other, colossal sculpture by this artist that also stands at this school: Ot en Sien.

Anne Dekking-van Haeften began her career as an artist around 1925 by creating portraits. Later she switched to modelling human figures and making sculptures. To learn how to sculpt well, the artist stayed in Paris in 1952-1953 and took lessons from the famous sculptor Karl Longuet. From 1956 onwards the large commissions for sculptures came in. Some of her most famous works are Ot en Sien, Affect (Tasten) – both are located in Groningen – and the war memorial in Delfzijl.
