Jelte van Lente

Jelte van Lente (1986) is a visual artist. In 2013 he graduated from Academy Minerva.

“In my work I often react to the confrontation between two worlds: the tangible reality of things and objects and the more abstract state of feelings and ideas. I see in this confrontation a clash, but a clash that can also be interpreted as a dance : two opposites moving around each other, sometimes clumsy, sometimes elegant, so I use my art to dance with the contradictions and paradoxes of life, instead of stumbling over them.
For this work I used the booth at the station where you can have passport photos taken. The passport photo booth always does the same: it records who is in front of the lens and prints a photo of it. It delivers a dated and form-retaining document to show something as it is ‘real’. It is one of the last forms to show images that cannot be manipulated by Photoshop. I have tried by analogous means to manipulate the image in such a way that it comes closer to the truth.”

About project 'Lucht'

The corona measures have hit the art sector enormously. Exhibitions and art grants have been canceled or postponed. It is an uncertain time for many artists. With the Lucht project, Kunstpunt Groningen wants to support artists and designers from the municipality of Groningen. 87 Groningen artists have received a stipend with which they have created new work, including Jelte van Lente. With a billboard exhibition from September 27 to October 17, we present all artists spread throughout the city of Groningen. View the work of the other artists here.
