Untitled (glass sculpture - glassculptuur)
Carlo Andreoli
About this artwork.
The glass sculpture was installed above the main entrance of the Stedelijke Muziekschool (City Music Academy). Of the nine parts, one part – the centre panel in the bottom row – was damaged and lost during renovations in 1998. In 2008, when the Muziekschool celebrated its 150th anniversary, this window was remade and installed. A year later, for safety reasons, the Muziekschool installed a glass window in front of the artwork.
Carlo Andreoli is a stained glass artist. He is best known for his abstract windows and murals made of glass and plexiglass, which he created in the 1960s and 1970s. For this sculpture Andreoli used the following technique: glass is glued to the inside and outside of float glass (glass made mainly from the raw materials sand, lime and soda). The artist worked with both laminated mirror glass and molten glass. At the centre of the piece is a glass appliqué.
Andreoli's sculpture is one of the few glass artworks in the city.
