The Dogtroep’s Bicycle (Dogtroep Fiets)

About this artwork.

A 9-metre-high bicycle with one big wheel and a few smaller wheels to one side stands in the pond in front of the UMCG hospital. The bicycle was used in 1997 for a play put on by theatre company de Dogtroep, to mark the opening of the new hospital building.

For years, the bicycle was parked in the Poortstraat (Gate Street) at the UMCG until, in 2015, it was given a new home on the Hanzeplein.
