Workshop Arabic music with Karam Shebat
About this activity.
In this workshop you will become acquainted with the Arab culture and the different music styles and genres of the Arab world. Anyone from 17 years old can participate, with and without experience on an instrument!
The workshop starts with an introduction and background to Arab culture by workshop leader Karam Shebat. We listen to examples, sing and play together to get a feel for the tones and timing of Arabic music. We then split up into small groups to delve deeper into a particular instrument of our choice. You can choose, among other things, for Arabic vocals, Arabic keyboard or playing the oud.
Western hits with an Arabic twist
During the workshop you will make a mash-up between Arabic music and a western hit together with experienced musicians. The end result will be presented to each other at the end of the workshop. Finally, Karam gives a concert together with the musicians and there is room to jam with each other. Afterwards there is the possibility to chat in the VRIJDAG Café at the Sint Jansstraat 7 in Groningen.
