The photo exhibition Veenmeesters ('Bog Masters') with photography by Björn Rubingh will open in Groningen on September 27, 2023.

MEANINGFUL & NARRATIVE VISUAL LANGUAGE
As a photographer and art director, Björn Rubingh gradually found a way to combine his artistic vision with a substantive purpose applied to visual storytelling and visual arts.
Visually seductive, meaningful and with a timeless ethic. His subjects are full of humanism, rawness and powerful emotions.

'VEENMEESTERS'
Inspired by works by the old masters with a Drenthe theme from the year 1800.

Vincent van Gogh's 'Two Women in the Peat' & 'Weed Burning Farmer' and Willem Roelofs' 'Hunebed van Tynaarlo' served as a source of inspiration for this concept. Characteristic in that people were portrayed/painted 'sober and tranquil'. Ascetic and rustic, rough painting strokes, tranquil, characteristic Drenthe landscapes and the free interpretation of the masters... inspiration for the photographer to delve deeper into these traditional image catchers. By placing these works of the old masters in the contemporary spirit of the times with current issues, innocence, awakening and authenticity, images are created with a new context and aesthetics. Where the characteristics and values of these works and the masters are respected and honored.
