New guest artist Bierumer School in search of memories
About this activity.
New guest artist Polina Shuvalova is working on her project Imprints of an Outpost, which will be presented at the Bierumer School in August and September.
In her work, she pays close attention to seemingly everyday experiences, which evoke a sense of nostalgia. Like the feeling of the morning sunbeams on one's face or the memory of long-forgotten family traditions. It is important for her to unravel this tapestry of everyday experience, sometimes exposing undesirable situations but, on the other hand, also allowing the serene moments to receive full attention.
During her stay at the Bierumer School, she explores what happens at the dividing line between past and present, where time blurs into itself and lost memories and feelings resurface. The split and convergence of present and past are a central theme in her work. Introspection has led her to recognise the underlying presence of time and its non-linear experience in her work. The past always presents itself in the present.
Polina Shuvalova collects memories of your birthplace and invites everyone to share them with her in a conversation during the Bierumer School's opening hours. Based on these conversations, she will create a space where visitors can relive memories. In the exhibition, she will combine textual work with the visual in the process. The result is an exploration of how nostalgia and the yearning for the past arise and a collection of fond memories of people's first homes.
Bierumer School offers artists space for production and presentation and is open to the public every Friday and Saturday from 2pm-5pm. Bierumer School, Hereweg 12, 9906 PE Bierum www.bierumerschool.nl.
