The Verkuno exhibition KLEIN ('Small') with work by 13 artists can be viewed from January 20, 2024 in the Kunstencentrum K38 in Roden.
The concept of small is relative, the influence of the environment can make something "small", everyone has their own perception.
This is how Thea Hoek creates small narrative scenes. Furthermore, Ruth Assink's portrayal of the feeling of insignificance in a landscape. Henk van Donk asks about the human dimension when seeing skyscrapers.
Zoom in on the bottom and discover small organisms by Rianne Kooijman. Arne Brink dives into the grass and sees a city of micro-organisms emerge. Deeper in the soil, Geertje Geertsma becomes enchanted by the unearthly beauty of slime molds, while Inka Markowski is fascinated by organic shapes and patterns. In the expanding universe, the earth appears to be shrinking according to Mieke Koenen. There is literally “small” work by Wianda Keizer with abstract objects and Joop Overkleeft balances on the border between concrete and abstract with woodcuts. And then Adriaan Nieuwenhuis with boys playing marbles, but also work about big problems, usually small in scope. In addition, there are also the tiny corona houses by Elt de Boer and the vaccination syringes by Maxelant.
This exhibition will open on Friday, January 19 at 8 p.m. with Edy Convent's piccolo playing. She was a flutist and piccolo player at the NNO for 41 years.
