We humans suffer from the fact that we are thinking beings. We battle our way through good and not-so-good periods in our lives. It seems a miracle that most of us manage to hold our own. We are fragile, even if we often think we are not.
Eveline van Duyl cherishes an ambivalent attitude towards the human being. Humans fascinate her immensely and, at the same time, she can tolerate very little of them. However, her work is always about them. Her thoughts and feelings find their way into all her photographic, spatial and drawn work.
Mainly, she makes sculptures from wood. She sometimes glues a piece to it or combines it with materials she has collected. Occasionally, she can already see in a log where the work should go. Her works are never realistic. They are however recognisable as human or animal figures, with a character. Often they are faces but also full-length people.
Van Duyl studied at the Rietveld Academie. She exhibits regularly, solo or in groups, and her work is included in several collections. She lives and works in Westerwijtwerd.
Galerie Noord.
Galerie Noord is een expositieruimte in hartje Groningen. Vierwekelijks bieden we kunstenaars uit het Noorden de mogelijkheid recent werk te tonen, solo of in kleine groepen. Galerie Noord richt zich op autonoom, experimenteel en onderzoekend werk in vrijwel alle disciplines. We willen bezoekers verrassen door tentoonstellingen te bieden met een wisselend karakter.
Galerie Noord wordt volledig gerund door vrijwilligers. In 1997 werd de galerie opgericht als kunstenaarsinitiatief.
