MESMER’S BIN
“Last year, during different “trash-walks” in the city of Groningen, I collected plastic waste that I found on the ground and re-purposed them to create art installations. The idea for this project, as for the previous ones, is to find attractive ways to re-use and recycle the plastic collected and, by doing so, to visualize the quantity of waste found in our environment and raise awareness on plastic pollution.
My proposal is a kinetic and interactive sculptural work that uses light, plastic waste and polarized filters as main elements. Next to the artwork, there will be a rubbish bin where people can throw their plastic waste and donate it to the artist. All the plastic collected will be recycled for the next artwork. There will be an infrared sensor to senses the presence of the plastic and activates the rotation of the polarizing filter.
Through this rotation, the plastic waste on the sculpture will appear in an unexpected way, focusing attention on how a small gesture such as sorting rubbish and recycling can trigger positive processes of transformation. By doing this I hope to actively involve the participants in the artwork and to engage with sustainable practices.”
About project 'Lucht'
The corona measures have hit the art sector enormously. Exhibitions and art grants have been canceled or postponed. It is an uncertain time for many artists. With the Lucht project, Kunstpunt Groningen wants to support artists and designers from the municipality of Groningen. 87 Groningen artists have received a stipend with which they have created new work, including Martina Dal Brollo. With a billboard exhibition from September 27 to October 17, we present all artists spread throughout the city of Groningen. View the work of the other artists here.
