About this artwork.

Behind the Museum aan de A, on the Schuitemakersstraat, is the Pakhuis. This former men's sauna - and later a place where artists had their studios - will be part of the extension of the Museum aan de A, after renovations have taken place here. The changes in the monumental buildings are documented for four years by photographers Anita Oosterloo and Joost Nuijten. They regularly walk through the changing museum with their cameras to photograph the small details, the historical building and special views. In doing so, they record everything, such as the relocation of the objects, but also changes and meetings.

A number of these photos can now be found on the outside of the building, in the place where previously all the purple plates were. The neighbours across the street would have liked to see something more beautiful in their place. In consultation with the museum, it was then decided to replace the plates with nineteen photos by Anita Oosterloo and Joost Nuijten. They show the first two years of the renovation, starting at the time when the Museum aan de A was still the Noordelijk Scheepvaartmuseum (Northern Maritime Museum). You see the transition from a museum full of maritime objects to empty rooms and display cases, waiting for what is yet to come.

About the assignment.

Photographers Anita Oosterloo and Joost Nuijten were selected during a Noorderlicht Photo Salon in 2021. The photo panels were created on behalf of the Museum aan de A.
