Return BKR Works

Artists wanted to return BKR works

The Kunstuitleen van Kunstpunt Groningen (formerly CBK Groningen) manages and exploits the art collection of the municipality of Groningen. This collection includes non-museum works, including works from the Visual Artists Scheme.

In the period 1956-1987, the municipality of Groningen acquired work by local artists under the BKR scheme. Due to limited housing options, a lot of work has already been removed from the collection in the past (2002-2004) after careful assessment. A destination has been sought for works with museum value. Other works behind glass have been framed and stored in boxes and folders. The depot does not have the ideal storage conditions as a museum does and as a result the work deteriorates. Kunstpunt will be moving in the near future, which has created the need to clean up the depot. The municipality of Groningen has therefore decided to return these works as much as possible to the (heirs of) artists. By starting this now, we have the time to do it carefully.

Procedure

Are you an artist (or heir of) and are you interested in returning work that you made in the context of the BKR? Please contact Kunstpunt Groningen before 1 July 2023 via the email address below. You will receive confirmation of the request within two weeks. An individual agreement will be made with each artist at a later date about when the work can be picked up. Our aim is to make an appointment with all artists before the end of 2023. Since we do not know how many artists will request their work back and it is very labour-intensive to collect the works per artist, we cannot yet say anything concrete about the term.

The artist takes the works back in their current condition. Returns are made with closed purse. The recipient organizes and pays for the packaging and transport. Kunstpunt Groningen makes an appointment for this with each artist individually.
