'Zinnenprikkelend' - People as the greatest source of inspiration!
About this activity.
The human as a subject in painting has captivated our imagination for centuries and continues to be a major source of inspiration for many artists to this day. In all its complexity, it is both beautiful and whimsical. 'De Stadsgalerie' in Groningen is therefore thrilled to announce the exhibition 'Zinnenprikkelend', in which we provide a platform for the 'painted human'. The work of the Frisian artist Roelie Douw and the artist from Groningen, Jannes Koetsier, takes a central place in this exhibition; both artists uniquely give form to this intriguing theme.
Roelie Douw obtained her diploma from the Classical Academy of Fine Arts in Groningen in July 2023. Her work demonstrates a great skill in rendering textures, such as skin, hair, and clothing. With both a fluent brushstroke and solid precision, the artist brings the figures on the canvas to life.
Jannes Koetsier graduated from Academie Minerva Groningen in 2003. Light and paint are the two most important ingredients of his paintings. In his studio, Jannes is working on a series of paintings featuring 'floating' ladies. He paints with great certainty and boldness in his use of color.
Of course, you can once again enjoy the work of the other permanent members of 'de Stadsgalerie': Annemarie de Groot, Peter Durieux, Marein Konijn, and Magna Postma demonstrate within their own themes what they understand as 'zinnenprikkelend'.
You are warmly invited to the opening of the exhibition on Sunday afternoon, September 3rd, at 4:00 PM.
