About this activity.

Kunstenaar Linda Bouter about this exhibition:

“The title of the upcoming autumn exhibition, When Dawn Has Overtaken the Night, is also the opening line of a "pensamiento" I wrote earlier this year.
This "pensamiento" is about contrasts, complements, variations, and completing or being part of a whole.
It's a major theme in life itself, encompassing many aspects, such as the relationship between one person and another and processes in nature. It's also a theme that plays a role in my work.

Paint and clay are very different materials, but they share the ability to transform from liquid/malleable into a solid. Both materials are completely different to work with and require a different approach. Working with clay involves a very physical interaction with your hands/body. During the production process, the material changes from supple and malleable to dry, brittle, and fragile. After firing, you're left with a relatively hard and rough product. The glaze makes it smooth and less porous, harder, and ultimately finished. You can't change a ceramic piece.

For me, the painting process, on the other hand, is more philosophical. Layer upon layer, you intensify the colors and the figuration takes shape. It's a calm yet intensive work, where you take the time and space to study your work carefully, make changes, let areas of color change, and meanwhile reflect on important things in life, whether they're personal or more news-related.

I use abstract and figurative forms, separately and also in combination.
They can complement and overlap, allowing the color areas to play a different role than they would in a painted reality. This freedom, combined with the image itself, creates space for imagination and intended emotion. You can achieve the latter by applying certain colors next to each other and accentuating elements of the figuration.

I challenge you to come and take a look into my world and view my work with an open mind. I'd love to exchange ideas with you about where we connect, whether complementary or otherwise.”
