About this artwork.
Two sports figures made of wood adorn the facade of the Het Buut gym. It was constructed in 1971 by Folkert Haanstra at the request of the architects group Bijleveld, Grit and Gunnink.
Folkert Haanstra (1920-1985), brother of the famous filmmaker Bert Haanstra, belonged to the group of artists who supplied art in the so-called reconstruction period (1940-1965) and in the following decade. They strived for a synthesis of art and architecture in their work.
